JULY 2024 UPDATE: Homeowners can receive rebates from BC Hydro for solar panels and battery storage systems, effective from July 23, 2024. These rebates are designed to support homeowners in adopting renewable energy solutions, enhancing energy efficiency, and managing electricity costs.
For solar panels, rebates are available up to $5,000, calculated at $1,000 per kilowatt (kW) of installed capacity. The rebate amount is capped at 50% of the total installed product cost, including labor and materials.
In addition to solar panels, homeowners can qualify for up to $5,000 in rebates for battery storage systems. These systems store excess renewable energy generated by solar panels, ensuring power availability during cloudy days, overnight, or in the event of a power outage.
To participate, homeowners must meet eligibility criteria. This includes having a BC Hydro residential account, owning or leasing a grid-connected residential property, and ensuring the system connects to BC Hydro’s distribution system through the self-generation program.
